Mel Exon | London
Mel is Group CEO of Sunshine. In her own words, she is responsible for ensuring ‘everything we do at Sunshine lives up to our name'.
She was previously at BBH for 19 years, latterly as their Managing Director, where she helped global brands as diverse as Levi’s, British Airways and Johnnie Walker define and activate their brand purpose. She was also instrumental in clinching the full service Tesco business and - in its subsequent turnaround - the holy grail of UK brand marketing & communications. Mel also co-founded and ran BBH Labs, the company's progressive innovation arm which became the gold standard in technology-driven, marketing R&D.
Her digital expertise was quickly recognised outside of the industry. Mel was included in Wired UK magazine’s Top 100 digital influencers in 2011, has served on several awards juries including Cannes Cyber Lions and she now sits on Google’s Creative Council and Facebook’s Client Council. She also writes a monthly technology column for Campaign magazine, for which she was nominated as PPA Business Columnist of the Year in 2015.
Connected to the realms of marketing and technology, Mel is deeply interested in how culture evolves, both inside and outside the companies she leads. She is particularly passionate about gender equality and has a second life as a writer. Having already penned a book in aid of Save the Children's #SaveSyriasChildren campaign, Mel is working on a new novel set in 1970s Pakistan. She speaks German & Russian, is mother to two daughters, enjoys flipping pancakes and loves the very old and the very new.
