We’re curious beings at Sunshine.

We’re inspired by the world around us and we like to share our new found favourite things with each other, either through our book club, or Good Afternoon Sunshine, where we take an hour every few weeks to stop and take a moment to listen as one of the team talks about something that they love which inspires them.

We’re lucky to live in three of the most culturally vibrant cities in the world. We like nothing more than taking inspiration from the things we see and experience, and now we want to share them with you through this monthly round-up that we’re calling ‘Sunshine Loves’.

Alice Neel, Uptown, curated by Hilton Als - the hello@thesunshinecompany.comrecent recipient of the Pulitzer prize for criticism- chronicles the work created over the 50 odd years when she lived and painted in Manhattan. As a Neel fan, it was fascinating to see how her work, and her treatment of light changed depending on the location of her studio. The exhibition, just around the corner from our London office, is a welcome break and a must visit.

April Elliott @april249

My youth was a blur of dark makeup, incense, scuffed Doc Marten's, K Cider bottles as candle holders...and the musical prowess of Guns 'N' Roses. So when I learned GNR were coming to rock my city of London, I HAD to get tickets. And how truly amazing they were, my childhood heroes. With Axl's stellar voice, Slash's guitar-playing genius and my boyfriend and I finding ourselves in a mosh pit (!!) they really did 'rock' this city.

Get ready for an immersive interactively- trippy journey through the past. The soundtrack is sublimely mood altering and the surrealist Hipgnosis covers are worthy of their own exhibition!

Stay With Me
Ayobami Adebayo

Cannongate Books

I have just finished reading Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo (our pick for the Sunshine Bookclub this month!) This beautiful debut novel chronicles the joys and heartbreaks of becoming a wife and mother while your family, and community, discuss your life as if it were a soap opera. The complexities of womanhood faced by Adebayo's heroine, Yejide, are explored in such lyrical and engrossing language; the story has been playing over in my head since I shut the last page.
